“Origin of Mai Tai
Mai Tai is the most famous tiki cocktail. “Mai Tai” is a Tahitian word which means ‘the best out of this world’. The cocktail got mor TVe popular as it was featured in the vfilm Blue Hawaii by Elvis.
Like any other popular cocktails, there is some confusion about the history of the drink. Where the drink really started its a confusion.
As per sayings that , Victor J. Bergeron invented the cocktail in 1944 at his restaurant Trader Vic’s in Oakland, California.
There is s another story of Mai Tai. In 1933 Don the Beachcomber’s opened a small restaurant in Hollywood. He made a collection of potent rum drinks. Beachcomber Rum Concoction , the drink that later known as the Mai Tai. That drink was made from Cuban rum, Cointreau, Pernod, Angostura bitters, fresh lime juice, and fresh grapefruit juice. Those and other drinks were introduced to Hawaii with the opening of the original Don the Beachcomber restaurant in Waikiki in 1947.
There is another story that Mai Tai is originated in Oakland after the first world war in 1914 which lead to the great Depression, all that people living in Oakland desired to be peaceful and free. So the drink is considered to have the ability to forget troubles. Its a drink that made to make people happy.”
“ Recipe of Mai Tai“
- Rum – 40 ml
- Orange Curcao – 20 ml
- Lime juice- 30 ml
- Sugar syrup – 10 ml
- Orgeat syrup – 10 ml
- Mint for garnish
- Crushed ice
“Steps
1. Put all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker full of ice.
2. Shake vigorously to chill and mix all ingredients.
3. Strain in to a glass filled with crushed ice.
4. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint , a wedge of lime.
