History of Singapore Sling
“ The Singapore Sling is a classic Gin cocktail that has delighted drinkers for over a century. It is a semisweet , sparkling fruity punch with a delightfully complex flavor.
The Singapore Sling is an internationally Cocktail created at Raffles Hotel, in1915 by bartender Ngiam tong Boon. ( One of the earliest references to a sling is from 1897, almost 20 years before the Raffles created their famous version).
It was a pink – hued drink intended for women, originally created as a lady’s drink , it has become a world renowned Cocktail still being mixed in Raffles Hotel.
The Raffles has since popularized the cocktail, taking pride in its relative fashionablility, and mentioning on its website “the Singapore Sling is widely considered
as the national drink of the country”,
Some of the details are not care and some may be lost to history- the modern explanation of the cocktail is one worth contemplating.
The original recipe was lost in the 1930s, causing dispute over what makes a genuine Singapore Sling — as with most , if not all historic cocktails – there is dispute over what method is exact and whether or not pineapple juice should be included. The main factor seems to be the dash of Benedictine
